This calendar is based on the Proyat Sopdat, the "going Forth of Sopdat," which occurs on August 3rd in the 21st Century.
The helical rising of the Holy Star Sopdat, Sirius or Sothis, the star of the Goddess Auwsat, Isis, heralds the New Divine Year, and the renewal of the Earth Father Geb by the magic of His Daughter Auwsat, Isis. Over thousands of years the Priest-Astronomers at Annuw, (On, Heliopolis) would make the observations and calculations to determine the Holy Festivals celebrated throughout Khemet,(Egypt) for the coming year by the rising of Sopdat. This event was cause for much joy and celebrated with the festival of Hap Tapy Ranpit.
There are three seasons, winter spring and summer in the Sopdat-Sothis year, consisting of twelve months of thirty days with an added five days called the Epagomenae or "the days above the years" which were inserted per year to equal 365 days. The birthdays of the Nutjer (Gods and Goddesses) were celebrated on these five days every year. The seasonal months were dedicated to and named after a specific God or Goddess. As time passed an additional day was added to balance time, very much like our own leap year.
CALENDAR SEASONS: The 360 days of the year with the Epagomenae (Epagomenal) of 5 days, equal the perfect year of 365 days.
